Have our democratic institutions been seriously compromised?

Updated: Jan 10, 2021

Democracy is a form of governance which allows maximum power to the people during elections. But what proceeds an elected representative coming to power is often found to be having a misuse of power for selfish and personal vendetta. The vigil on actions of elected representatives post in power is very minimal and it is often seen there is lack of transparency in course of actions performed. Only the "selected" few members of the institution have access to this knowledge which is supposed to clearly know with details to all representatives who had elected the representatives in the first place.

Balance sheets and books of accounts which are passed on to all the members at the end of the financial year are the easiest documents to manipulate. Especially in times where the auditor is in the good books of the elected members. Compromise does not limit to swindling of money, power and resources but also to the process in which institution leaders are elected in the first place. Lack of education of voters, Small-Medium lie passed down by the leaders which the "favouring" media would pass only to go on to become Big Lies leads to eventual minimal fact check

However, Democracy is the form of governance in which each and every member has an equal vote in the decisions taken. As such, utmost equality is ensured in the organisation. Voting from every member ensured that the leaders elected as the people's choice which is a representative of a diverse set of perspectives which others would be missing in Oligarchy or Dictatorship. More than 70% of the countries in the world have democratic representatives as it is the ideal way to know grassroots opinion. Without this, such system the law created would be based on a limited perspective

There is almost no restriction to who can be elected as a leader in a Democratic institution which therefore promotes an equal opportunity for leadership and is not based on family lineage, status in society, etc. The procedure of elections is often transparent and anomalous which ensures members can vote for who there feel is truly deserving and don't need to "justify" their vote to any leader or member of the democratic institution.
